SonFlow SF250 Gasketed Plate Heat Exchanger

SonFlow SF250 is a series of gasketed plate heat exchangers with a single-pass configuration and DN250 flanged connections for HVAC and industrial installations. The SF251, SF252 and SF253 models offer three plate heights for selecting the heat transfer area according to the required thermal duty, flow rates and allowable pressure drop.
The gasketed construction allows inspection and mechanical cleaning of the plates, as well as replacement of plates and gaskets. The series is supplied to order. The configuration, price and delivery time are specified in the quotation.

New heat exchanger
Send the fluids on both sides, flow rates, and inlet and outlet temperatures. Specify the operating pressure, allowable pressure drop and available space for installation and maintenance.
Replacement of PHE
Send photos of the nameplate and connections, along with the available operating parameters and overall dimensions. We will assess a replacement using SonFlow SF250 or another series.
Plates and gaskets
Send the model, serial number and required quantity. Attach photos of the nameplate, plate or gasket. Include the fluids and operating temperatures, if known.
SF251, SF252 and SF253 models
All three models use plates with a width of 760 mm and a horizontal port centre distance of 448 mm. The different heights provide different heat transfer areas per plate. Selection takes account of the thermal duty, hydraulic conditions and available installation space.
SF251 · plate size 760 × 1178.5 mm
The model with the shortest plate in the series. The vertical port centre distance is 860.5 mm. The overall frame height in the drawing is 1558 mm.
SF252 · plate size 760 × 1845 mm
The vertical port centre distance is 1527 mm. The overall frame height shown in the dimensional drawing is 2220 mm.
SF253 · plate size 760 × 2372 mm
The model with the tallest plate in the series. The vertical port centre distance is 2054 mm. The overall frame height shown in the dimensional drawing is 2761 mm.
When to consider SF250
KONTECH recommends considering SF250 for duties requiring DN250 flanged connections and a gasketed plate heat exchanger for heating, cooling or heat recovery. The three plate heights allow the heat transfer area to be selected for the specified operating conditions.
Plate size, profile and number are assessed together. DN250 connections alone do not determine the allowable flow rate or thermal duty. Installation planning must include access for unloading and space to open and service the plate pack.
When to consider another series
For different connection sizes, flow requirements or overall dimensions, consider the other SonFlow gasketed plate heat exchangers.
For fluids containing particles or fibres, or with elevated viscosity, a Free Flow plate heat exchanger can be assessed.
For corrosive fluids, the compatibility of all wetted surfaces must be checked. Titanium plates do not remove the need for a suitable connection material.
Typical applications of SonFlow SF250
- HVAC and central systems: Heat transfer between water or water-glycol circuits in central heating and cooling systems.
- Industrial processes: Heating and cooling of process fluids and recovery of waste heat, subject to assessment of the operating conditions.
- Data centres: Separation of cooling circuits according to the required thermal duty, temperatures and allowable pressure drop.
- Geothermal systems: Heat transfer following assessment of the water chemistry and compatibility with the plates, gaskets and connections.
Configuration to suit the fluids and operating conditions
Plates
SF250 is available with AISI 304, AISI 316 or titanium plates. The material is selected according to the fluids, temperatures and corrosion resistance requirements.
Frame
A painted carbon steel frame in RAL 5010 is available. Design pressure options are 10 or 16 bar for SF251, and 10, 16 or 25 bar for SF252 and SF253. The frame size is selected to suit the model and plate pack, taking account of installation and maintenance requirements.
Gaskets
The SF250 series is available with NBR or EPDM gaskets. The material is selected according to the fluids, operating temperatures and cleaning agents.
Connections
KONTECH supplies the SF250 series with DN250 carbon steel flanged connections. Compatibility with the fluid is assessed during selection. The flange standard and pressure rating are specified in the quotation. Mating pipe flanges are not included in the supply.

All three models use plates with a width of 760 mm and different heights. This provides different heat transfer areas per plate. The model and number of plates are selected according to the thermal duty, flow rates, allowable pressure drop and available installation space.
There is no single rating for all configurations. Flow rate and thermal duty are assessed according to the fluids, temperatures, model, plate profile and number of plates. Send the operating parameters and allowable pressure drop for selection.
A replacement is assessed using the operating parameters, overall dimensions and connections of the existing unit. Send photos of the nameplate and connections, together with any available drawing or dimensions.
The space required depends on the model, frame length and plate pack. In addition to the installation dimensions, allow access for unloading and space to move the pressure plate and remove the heat transfer plates.
This depends on a new sizing assessment. The temperatures, flow rates and allowable pressure drop must be checked. Additional plates can be proposed when the existing frame and configuration allow expansion and the resulting plate pack meets the revised operating requirements.
The price depends on the model, number and material of the plates, gaskets and frame. Once the operating parameters have been clarified, KONTECH prepares a quotation with a proposed configuration and price.
The series is supplied to order. The delivery time is confirmed for the selected model and configuration and specified in the quotation.
