SonFlow SF50 Gasketed Plate Heat Exchanger
SF51 and SF51D models for HVAC and industrial applications
SonFlow SF50 is a single-pass gasketed plate heat exchanger series with DN50 / 2″ connections. The series includes the SF51 and SF51D models and is configured according to the fluids, flow rates, temperatures, operating pressure and allowable pressure drop.

New heat exchanger
Send the fluids on both sides, the flow rates, the inlet and required outlet temperatures, the operating pressure and the allowable pressure drop, if specified. Include any other requirements, if available.
PHE replacement
Send a photo of the nameplate and the unit, together with the available operating data, overall dimensions and connection details. We will check whether it can be replaced with a SonFlow SF50 or another SonFlow series.
Plates and gaskets
Send the model, serial number, number of plates and photos of the unit, nameplate or plate. If necessary, we will clarify the fluids and temperatures to select the gasket material.
SF51 or SF51D
Both models are part of the SF50 series and share the same basic frame dimensions. The difference lies in the plate profile.
The Deep profile forms deeper channels and is considered when this channel geometry suits the required hydraulic conditions and may help reduce the risk of clogging.
Do not select SF51D based on the “Deep” designation alone. The heat duty, channel velocity and pressure drop must be calculated for the specific operating conditions.
SF51: plates with standard pressing depth
For single-pass heating, cooling and process heat transfer duties where the hydraulic and thermal parameters suit the model.
SF51D: plates with increased pressing depth
Suitable when deeper channels can support the required hydraulic performance and help reduce the risk of clogging.
When SF50 is a suitable choice
SF50 is a starting point when price is a key selection factor, DN50 / 2″ connections are required and the operating conditions fall within the range of the series. Connection diameter alone is not sufficient for final selection. The fluids, flow rates, temperatures, pressure and allowable pressure drop must also be checked.
The gasketed construction provides access to the plate pack for inspection, mechanical cleaning and gasket replacement. If the operating requirements change, the plate pack can be reassessed, provided that the frame and the revised sizing allow the change.

When another series should be considered
For larger connections or higher flow rates, a larger SonFlow gasketed plate heat exchanger series is considered.
For viscous or contaminated fluids, or fluids containing particles or fibres, a Free Flow plate heat exchanger is considered.
For clean fluids and applications that do not require the plate pack to be opened, a brazed plate heat exchanger may be considered.
Configuration according to the fluid and operating conditions
Plates
SF50 is available with plates in AISI 304, AISI 316 or titanium. The material is selected according to the fluid composition, temperature and corrosion risk. Other materials can be checked upon inquiry.
Frame
Painted frames in RAL 5010 and stainless steel frames are available. The design pressure and frame material are confirmed for the selected configuration.
Gaskets
The series uses Hang-on gaskets in NBR, EPDM or Viton. The selection depends on the fluid, operating temperature and cleaning agents used.
Connections
Available options include a DN50 / 2″ flanged, a DN50 / 2″ pipe connection or sanitary union for food-processing applications, and a 2″ BSP/NPT threaded connection. Mating pipe flanges are not included in the supply.
