The SonFlow SF70 series includes SF71, a single-pass gasketed plate heat exchanger with DN50 / 2″ connections for food processing applications. The porthole design and plate corrugation are designed for gentle handling of sensitive liquid food products during heat exchange with a heating or cooling medium.
The configuration is selected according to the product, flow rates, temperatures, allowable pressure drop and cleaning requirements. The gasketed construction provides access to the plates for inspection, mechanical cleaning and gasket replacement.

New heat exchanger
Send the product and heating or cooling medium, flow rates, inlet and required outlet temperatures, operating pressure and allowable pressure drop. Include your connection and cleaning requirements.
Replacement of PHE
Send photos of the nameplate and connections, together with the available operating data and overall dimensions. We will assess replacement with SonFlow SF71 or another suitable series.
Plates and gaskets
Send the model, serial number, number of plates and photos of the nameplate or plate. Include the product, operating temperatures and cleaning agents, if known.
SF71 model in the SonFlow SF70 series
SF71 is the model in the SF70 series. The plate measures 268 × 928 mm, with a horizontal port centre distance of 150 mm and a vertical port centre distance of 800 mm.
Plate porthole diameter: Ø70 mm. Overall frame height shown in the drawing: 1136 mm. The unit length depends on the frame and number of plates.
The number and material of the plates are selected according to the required thermal duty, product properties and allowable pressure drop.

When SF70 is a suitable choice
KONTECH recommends SF70 for heat exchange between liquid food products and heating or cooling media where gentle product handling, connections for food processing and access to the plates for maintenance are important. Selection considers the properties of both fluids, operating conditions and cleaning requirements.
For food processing applications, the product composition, viscosity, particle content and requirements for product-contact materials are specified. Plates, gaskets and connections are selected to suit the operating temperatures and planned cleaning procedure.
The construction allows cleaning in place (CIP) and opening for plate inspection. If the production conditions change, the possibility of adding plates can be assessed against the available frame capacity and revised thermal and hydraulic requirements.
Typical applications of SonFlow SF70
- Dairy processing: heating and cooling of liquid dairy products, subject to assessment of viscosity, temperature conditions and cleaning requirements.
- Beverages: heat exchange between liquid food products and heating or cooling media, with a configuration suited to the product composition, temperatures and cleaning requirements.

- HVAC and industrial processes: heating and cooling of fluids where the SF71 configuration matches the application requirements.
When to consider another series
For heat exchange between water or water-glycol circuits, or where different plate geometry or connections are required, consider the other SonFlow gasketed plate heat exchangers. Selection depends on flow rates, temperatures and allowable pressure drop.
For fluids containing particles or fibres, or fluids with higher viscosity, KONTECH recommends assessing the suitability of a Free Flow plate heat exchanger.
Configuration according to fluids and operating conditions
Plates
SF71 is available with AISI 316 stainless steel or titanium plates. The material is selected according to the product and heating or cooling medium, temperatures and corrosion resistance requirements. For food processing, the requirements for product-contact materials are also specified.
Frame
The manufacturer specifies a painted frame in RAL 5010 or a stainless steel frame, with a design pressure of 10 or 16 bar. The frame construction is selected according to the installation environment, external cleaning conditions and operating requirements.
Gaskets
SF71 is available with Hang-on gaskets in NBR or EPDM. The gasket material is selected according to the product, heating or cooling medium, operating temperatures and cleaning agents. Selection also takes into account the concentrations of the cleaning agents and the temperatures used during the cleaning cycle.
Connections
SF71 is available with DN50 / 2″ connections for food processing applications. The connection standard, dimensions and construction are specified according to the piping system and installation requirements.
